Coming down to the potomac next weekend(4/7/12) and bringing my wife and and some friends that just got married. My wife and friends have never caught a blue cat before so I'm hoping to put them on a few biggins. If anybody's out and you see a bass buggy pontoon stop and say hi. Probably be from the fort down to gunston. It's looking like the morning will be an outgoing tide and wondering if anybody has a preference of incoming or outgoing tides?

incoming tide is my favorite but the big boys will bite on an out going,i like fishing the edges of the channels,rockfish should be running if the cats dont bite look for birds hitting the water,get above them and suspend baits about 6-10' ft off the bottom

I think that the incoming tide has been a little better for me also. I would love to get into a few rockfish this trip. Ususally would go down to the James and use live Herring but that is not an option this year. Will the rockfish bite on cut shad?

Absolutely! One of my biggest was caught on a piece of cutbait while fishing for cats. You can always hedge your bets and cut a shad fillet into strips so it flutters in the current...stipers hit them almost as good as herring.

there will be some bif rockfish in the river too,i been fishing for them in the bay for 7-8 year and all my biggest have been out of the river,my pb rock is 48lb and my biggest in the bay is 40 pound at 41 inches

In that area you will be fishing I prefer the outgoing tide. But then again you never know when that monster will come along and bend that rod. I hope you get them on some big ones have fun.
