Remembering the past
P3260086.JPGP3260082.JPGP3260084.JPGP3260089.JPGP3260080.JPGIn the wee hours of this morning I was trying to figure out where to fish with a North or NW wind in the range of 10 to 15 MPH. Then I forgot all about the wind and started thinking about a tourney that Capt. Taylor and myself were in and how we lost a tourney via turning around in a cove when we reach the mud line. In chatting with the eventual winners, they informed us that they were in the very back of that cove in 5 to 10 feet or muddy water and stayed there until after lunch. According to the weatherman this AM, Lake Norman got 2 inches of rain or better this weekend and I just knew that the area we started to fish in 2005, but didn't on account of the mud, was where I would fish today because it would be dingy or muddy.
Had the trolling motor in the water by a little after 8 AM and six rigs out a little after. Bait of choice was some live crappies which I cut up in chunks and strips and some small live sunfish. Started off in the 15 to 18 feet of water and worked my way back to the 5 to 9 feet of water. Water surface temp. was a tad over 66 degree. Caught plenty of eater size in the front part of the cove, but when I got to the shallows I had a double, a 27.5 pounder and maybe a 15.
Wind starting blowing worst, so I brought all the rigs in and had the trolling motor back in it's cradle at 10:10 AM and headed back home busting white caps in the river.Nil desperandum

Shallow water fishing makes up a lot of the big fish fishing I do. I'll fish deep if the big fish are deep, but if they are shallow, I'll fish shallow. you can catch them shallow most months of the year if conditions are right. A lot of catfisherman are missing out on this and just believe that big fish are in deep water. Some of my best fish have came form less than 5 ft. of water. Most times you hear the fish break the surface before the rod even gets bent good. I love it!
