Three nice trays of petunia's some are starting to bloom, some black dragon coleus, zinnias, marigolds, forget-me-not's and 100 milkweed plants that I'm putting out for the Monarch's.

Here it is, I built it about 3 years ago but this will be the forth spring it has been in operation. There a couple of pics of the outside, one of the potting bench and one of the automated light and ventilation system.

It's considered a passive solar greenhouse most of the light that comes in is on the south facing part, the other walls are insulated with 3" closed cell foam, the foundation and earth under the floor have 4" foam with about 20 tons of aggregate for thermal mass, I keep 4, 55 gal barrels inside for thermal mass and irrigation. This will maintain above freezing temps even if the outside is below 10 degrees, With the addition of a small 1500watt electric heater it will maintain 60 to 70 even in the same temps.

We aren't planting a garden this year. Several different reasons involved....
1. tractor is broke down and cant afford to get it fixed yet,
2. hubbys working 6 days a week and just don't have time to deal with it,
3. we are cuttin back on demanding things such as garden and pets (he sold his hunting beagles) so we can have a relaxing year without the responsibilities of tendin to stuff.
We will plant a few container plants like tomatoes, peppers, squash, herbs... thats bout it this year... sure will feel odd not having the usual huge garden.... guess I wont be canning as much either.

got my soil worked. no plants yet. i buy tomato and pepper. so hard to get established and the starlings usually eat a dozen tomato and a few peppers so i just buy them and replace as they are picked off. i pick off a few birds with the BB gun too. sometimes i put up my bird net too. waiting a few more weeks to plant here in il. still a frost danger. crazy weather. has been up to 85 already but last night it got down to 45 and was cool all day today. be re working the soil again soon. cleaned out the goat, rabbit barn this fall and had to work the straw and doo doo into the dirt. should have some bodatious plants this year. horseradish and asparagus are popping up as well as ruhbarb. cant eat asparagus yet just planed last year and there tiny still. maybe another season well have eater size.
