None of my reels have less than 100# braid on them.
I would walk 10000 miles to smoke an ABU....

30 pound. It's plenty for the trophy needs.
I think people rely on more what line looks like then how it performs.
    30 pound braid is small.

I've caught plenty of citation Red Drum on less then 30. A catfish can't compare to a Red Drum in fight.

i'd say it depends, for max distance 20-30lb, more max pulling power 80lb, or best compromise 50-65lb. personally i use 20lb i can cast good distance, it's stronger than stated(closer to 40lb breaking strength) and like mark j say i have landed sharks and rays up 100lbs on it and most saltwater fish can give a reel a good workout. not that catfish are weaklings.

.POWER PRO BRAID IS NOISY on graphite rods in the Colorado River.... Had to change some poles out because of the hum in the POLE/LINE combination...... Way to noisy for me.... Maybe it is the acoustics with my thick wall alum boat....

Been a year since fishing for flats.... I guess I'll have to check the gear...

I'm thinking about switching to 30# from 65# so I can get more distance but I've read on other forums that thinner braid was harder to manage how true is this

I use power Pro on most of my reels, the majority are spooled with 30lb, casts a bit farther but those reels are mainly for channel cats here on the Mississippi and the 30lb gives a slight edge if I would hook a larger fish and you never know what you'll hook up with on this river. If I'm going for Blues I use 50lb and 80lb and that's more for snags they actually fighting the fish because I still use leaders that are half the weight of my main line, when I'm drifting snags are common so I can break off with out losing so much of the high price braid.

i even use 10lb braid but the secret is to check your reels roller bearing. once you drop down to 20 or lighter that bearing has to be free rolling. if it sticks then your line will get twisted and here come the problems.
