I bought some perch and asked the baitshop owner what am I supposed to do with the ones I dont use that night. I payed for them and would like to take them home to my bait tank to use another day but this paper has a date. baitshop owner said thats still ok. I can do that and still be legal. he said just keep the paper on them

Here's the way I see it. Don't look for loop holes, read the rules and follow them as written or you're asking for trouble. If you are told by a state official something that differs from the written rule, make sure you get it in writing on official KDWPT letter head paper along with name and number of the person you talked to. Bait shop owners don't write tickets, they don't enforce the law. I would be very careful and cautious about taking anybody's word other than state officials and then ONLY if they are willing to put it in writing with their name on it.

yea but still you could talk to 5 game wardens and get 5 different ways they will enforce it. they really need to clarify it

IF you are fishing ANS waters your still in trouble. ALL fish, bait and game have to be killed before leaving the lake. I called the Region #2 chief CO and asked about keeping live bait and specifically, keeping bait for running trot lines. I asked, if running lines for the weekend, lets assume I plan to stay at the lake and camp for 3 days. I have 100 live bait fish, and I have my legal 25 hook trot line. Do I have to kill my extra 75 live baits after setting the line the first time? If I pull my boat out and camp for the night at the state park, do I have to kill my bait?
I was told, NO, only have to kill the fish before leaving the lake, live bait can be kept alive while camped AT the lake.
The way I read the law, if you are fishing ANS waters, your bait must die before hitting the highway.
The department of tourism needs money, if you want to bend rules, best be ready to go to court. and yes, different wardens may see the law differently, but which one will be checking you? Im betting its the one that thinks keeping bait is wrong, thus ticket will be issued.

Exactly my point. As long as you follow the rule as it is written you are safe. If you take the advice of your local bait shop some wardens might give you a pass, but it is the other guy that won't I'm worried about. I doubt that bait shop owner will be willing to pay your ticket if you run into that one warden as well.
Let's be clear here, I'm not saying your information is incorrect. I'm not sure either way, my point is I wouldn't take the bait shop's word is all.

A little off topic, but how would you deal with corp of engineers vs. department lands.....the way I interpet Bait on ans water is it has to die when it leaves department land. So say you were camped on corp ground, would bait have to die when it left the water. I know that state and federal
laws are probably similar.....but technically bait would leave dept. lands.

I agree with Josh on taking a bait-shop owners advise on the new laws on live bait......I'm working in a bait shop right now and we are trying to make people aware of the new laws and there are many, many that hevent even heard about them......and were calling the topeka office at least once per week asking them questions and we will get two differant awsner each time....but what they are telling us on the receipt for live bait is its good for 5 days but I just dont think myself that this is right or even makes since.....
So I can go to a bait shop buy 2dz perch and get a receipt and go to the lake...use all of them....Head back home take 2dz perch from a pond and go back to the lake the next day....(how would them know) I still have a receipt that shows i bought 2 dz perch from the bait-shop...I could do this for 5 days...??????????????????????//////
This is what they told us but dont take my word on this from me...I'm not paying anyones fines...LOL!!!
