I am wondering is a Shimano Stradic 1000FG a good spinning reel for light duty fishing. I would like to do it to do double duty fishing for crappie and bass.

Yeah I don't see why not. Braid or mono? 10# braid should make it all purpose. 1000fg holds 140 yds of 4lb mono so the braid will upgrade it.
Hello CJ glad tp see you posting again, Yes go for the Shimano it will work great for what for you.
Charles that is a fine reel and will serve you well on both species. Good to see you back.
IT ONLY TAKES ONE CAST--MY DAY WILL COME
I have a Stradic 2500 on a 7ft med lite shimano clarius rod, it's effertless to cast and use it for stripers. You won't regret the 1000, it's SAWEET!
I also been looking at the Stradic 2500. I would like to use my Abu 6500C3 for Catfish and Striped Bass but I need another rod!
Good to see ya Charles! Thought ya got eaten by a fish. LOL!
"IF YA SAY YOU'RE GONNA DO IT----DO IT"
I have three of the 2000 stradics with st. croix rods I use for bass and crappie. I have 10 pound braid on two of them and mono on the other. They have served me well for over 15 years and still going strong.
