Default River stage/level and impact on bite

Still trying to figure out river fishing. How does rain or water level effect it? When is the bite the best and/or worst in terms of river stage if you compare say a river that is high and rising, or high but falling,or normal but rising, or normal and falling, etc... ?

    Default just depends

Slow rise is a good bite --- stable water for a few days gives a good bite a slow fall does ok. A real fast rise or fall say like 6 ft in 4 hrs will shut em down for a day or 2
