Default Who's thinking we might have an early mushroom season?

With this mild winter and warm temps I am already slobbering over the 2012 mushroom season. I am thinking we might have an early start and am keeping my eyes and ears open.

Typically I start hunting too early and get a little burnt out and discouraged before the season really picks up. Am always wondering if it's too early, too late etc.

Hit the freaking motherlode three years ago but then not too good the last two years even in the motherlode location.

Share your tips and PM me your spots, LOL!

I still can't ID my trees so I typically wander aimlessly through the woods and get lucky here and there. Been lost a few times but thankful now for GPS as it has saved my butt a few times.

    Good Hunting in 2012!

    Default slober

It's plenty warm they only need 68 twenty four seven, it's 70 here now. You being farther south should be a week or two before us up here.
We have been having high wind, which they don't like, and it's way too dry here, but they call for rain the next five days.
It does pay to know your trees, but I can do without getting lost. LOL

    Good Luck

    Default Too early

I have heard of a few reds being found around the St. Louis area, but I won't be touching the woods until at least early April after we get some good rains.
I sure hope I'm wrong though....
These gobbling turkeys have my head spinning!!!

I looked yesterday evenin for a couple hours in some spots that usually produce. Zilch, nothing. We need more rain and it's early. The may apples haven't come up yet, that in itself tells me it's early.
