    Default why braided line

I see alot of guys using braied line on here. I haven't used it yet. I'm wondering why you guys like it. What are some of the pros of braided vs mono.

The sensitivity and the no stretch factor.

X2. Alot of guys swear by mono but I personally like braid. What if the fish of a lifetime breaks your line when your using 50lb mono? (not saying it will). Wouldnt you rather have 100 lb test just in case? Try fitting 100lb mono on a medium sized baitcaster/spinning reel. Not a whole lot would fit... With 100lb braid, it is the same diameter as 20lb mono, letting you spool up alot more than you could with the same lb test mono. Also, braid doesnt have the line memory(spirals in the line). The only downside is that it isnt as abrasive resistant as mono. Smaller diameter line means that if the fish pulls you around a rock, tree, or whatever underwater structure there is, the smaller line will break before that large diameter mono would. If you do use braid, I recomend at least using 80lb for flathead fishing. Alot of the waters here in AZ have ALOT of snags/structure so i like to use 80-130lb braid. Hope this helps you out a little.

    Default Good Question

I use 30# PP on my bait rig. It a small spinning reel, and, I like the capacity,, and lack of memory.

For my Flathead Fishing rigs, I use reels of adequate capacity to handle whatever quality mono I choose to use.. 50-80#..

Because, it has better abrasion resistance.

Unless, I'm using a float,, then, sometimes, I'll use braided line on that rig, with a stout mono leader.

But, Most folks use what they have confidence with!!

for me , its a price issue, I cant see me payin the high price of braid ,ever. Besides I expect to loose a fish now and then, I see no reason to use braid .

Confidence, low memory, low stretch, sensitivity, manageability, strength and abrasion resistance are the reasons that I use it.

You just get away with a lot of things with braid that you wouldn't with mono. I use 130# Magibraid, the reason I go so heavy is because the lighter braids are sharp and can really cut you if you're not careful.

One thing to consider its if you're bank fishing or not. Braid will cast a lot further and smoother than braid. Most will compromise and use mono or fluoro leader.

Both got their good points. One thing braid is thinner, it seems to be better in current since there aint' so much thickness to it compared to similiar test mono. Braid has better sensitivity, and not so much stretch. The stretch thing is both good and bad. Mono will eventually soak up water, and it sinks, braid usually not. If ya have braid on and give a hard cast and the line is caught up in something, like digging down into the spool, it could snap. Mono might take it and have a rubber band effect.

I'd recommend a mono top shot on a spool full of braid, it can be knicked and worn and replaced cheaper than braid.
