You can recharge both car batteries and deep cycle. Deep cell batteries last very long, and will hold charge better then a standard car battery (they are also much heavier). It may be helpful to read an article about how to care for a marine battery. Here is one article ...http://www.insideline.net/1996/puckett-1112-96.html (If you don't understand or like the wording, find another article, 'google search how to charge a deep cycle battery)

Lots of useful information out there about proper charging. One battery can last forever and hold good charge if properly taken care of. The other thing to take into consideration is weight. (especially if your boat is not on a trailer). I used to use a 10' jon boat that I threw in the back of my pickup, and after lugging the deep cycle battery around, I realized I could get away with a tractor size battery for the limited use of trolling motor. Just make sure you don't end up running out of power on the water!

They make some handy tools to monitor your batteries charge... I don't have one as I mostly use a gas motor, but if a trolling motor was my primary means of getting to the dock, I would get something so I could keep an eye on the charge.
    Happy boating

    Default yep

I've got an 8 foot pelican. I got a big truck battery out of a wrecked rig and it lasts for a day of pond fishing, never had it in the river.
