    Default Leader Material

Can anyone tell me what is the best line to make leaders out of? Should I just use mono or should I buy a roll of leader material? The line I'm going to use is 50lb. Invicta mono.

You guys recommended 40 lb for the leader. Any advantages to using the leader material? I want to tie up a bunch of hooks. This cabin fever is driving me crazy. Thanks Todd

Flourocarbon leader is better than mono. Much more abrasion resistant.

you gonna get a lot of differant ideas on this subject but heres mine any way.i use a mono leader at least 10 lbs lighter than my main line not for the fish but so my leader will break before my main line.i dont want a hundred yards of line going into the waters i fish.it dont matter to me what kind long as it breaks before my main line.

A cats maw will tear up some line. Mono will work, ya just gotta check it for abrasions and weak spots after catchin fish. That and $$$$ also comes into play. Been usein mono for decades with no problems.

I've always used 60# fluoro leader. My favorite is the Yo-Zuri pink brand.

I use it with either 40# mono, or 80# braid. The lighter/heavier leader than main line isn't really a concern of mine. I just wanted a thick enough leader that can take a licking but still allow me to bring in a big fish, but that is not too thick or stiff to give me trouble tying hooks. 60# just happened to be the magic number for me.

What kind of knot do you tie? 60# would work good for 80# PP, how hard would it be to use 80# flouro with 100# PP as far as trying knots goes?

I use 80 pound braid for my leaders . I pretied 200 of them and each has its own little baggy . Alot of guys use mono leaders with less poundage then the main line , which makes great sence . I use a heavier pound leader because I usually always grab the leader to control the fish at the boat and then reach down and lip him . Its just how I have always done it , so its more habit I think . I keep telling my self I should try a lighter leader then main line , but havent yet ....... lol
