    Yeah thats who I normally get parts from. They dont have a kit that fits my year model. After hours of searching part numbers for different motors on Johnsons website, turns out there is one after all. Its just not listed anywhere for the 1972 50hp. Part number is 18-7820 if you ever need one.

    found the problem. It was the filter. I dont know if the pump couldnt pull through it good or if it had a small leak. I removed each part of the fuel line till I had nothing more than a line going straight to the filter then to the pump and it was still pumping the filter dry. Finally I put it all back together without the filter, pumped the bulb till it was hard then cranked the boat and let it run for 15 minutes. I turned it off and the bulb was still firm. Guess I'll leave the filter off and continue to hope the screen in the pump will stop any trash.
