lol......I've used just about every live presentation out there. Catfish are my favorite fish. I don't have the heart to use one for bait. I have used bait that large and larger though. Big Grin.gif

I didn't get bit with that one. A few years back i had another 5# Carp that did get picked up. I farmed the hookset though. I don't think I gave the fish enough time to eat it.

That's crazy! All my larger cats came from 4-5" gills. I guess they see them as easy pickings.

Jim you got that carp hooked wrong. A 30# flat will take that but the part with the hook will stay outside his mouth till he digest 4 or 5 inches of the bait. I hook my big bait in the mouth or right at the front of the back. I caught a 38# flat last year that had swallowed a 6# blue. The blue had swallowed my hook and extended his spurs so when I pulled him up the flat couldn't spit him out. I have never seen a big bait swallowed tail first.

I'm sure there is a method to Jim's madness because look at that goldish/ yellow monster he's holding. But anyhow when I look at how he has that fish hook. I think its for when the fish takes the bait head first. And Then when you go to set the hook it tears from the back of the bait. Thus creating a perfect lip hook set not a gut hook. Just my. 02 cent....

My preference is 1/2#-1# baits. I'm not targeting 30's using 5# baits. I'm looking for that 50+ that just isn't interesed in moving for a 1/2# gill. If a 50 or 60 were to hit the bait the way i had it hooked, i think i'd be able to get the hardware into him.
