The problem is that if the creek is the same body of water as the river, then it's ANS water, and you can't transport any live fish away from it. If its not the same body of water, then you are not able to transport fish between different bodies of water. I do understand the argument that there is no risk of spreading anything, but I'm not the one you will need to convince if you get checked.

Loop hole
I think i finely got this right .so if the body of water you are fishing is a non ans lake or pond you can keep your daily limit of sport fishin in kansas. white bass bullhead bluegill are sport fish if taken by rod and hook . now with that it states only wen leaving an ans body of water must you drain your boat and bait tank and leave with no live fish. I see where you are going with this, and I will remind you that taking these legally caught fish, and transporting them to the ans river to use as bait is illegal. If there is a warden on the ramp, your toast. I also agree that that doesnt happen too often, but im guessing this year it may happen more often because there is a tremendous potential for tickets this year. Seriously, how many bank liners and trot liners ,that have fished that way for generations, how many are going to read the new regulations when they come out? I mentioned this new law to several people already and no one has heard of it. I dont see wildlife and tourism advertising this.
Im sure there are people who will break this law, some will know about it before hand, but most will not know of it before the ticket is given too them. and as Gary was referring too, this is written in such a way that you are pretty much in the wrong unless you BUY the bait, or catch it in the exact spot you intend to fish.

So there's No way to keep a State or World Record Fish out of the river and get it weighed and then release it without getting a fine? Regardless of species?

Get somebody to bring the scale to the river. Or ask permission from the KDWP agent who has to be present to verify the fish anyway. No guarantees, but I bet they would work with you on it.

Same with Tourneys too, ou can not leave the body of water with them, I asked about this at the boat show and they had no answer other than "Never thought about that one" I bet they give special rights in the case of the tourney's though.

The way i read it you cant leave the water onto a public hwy/road with live fish...So I think going to a the weigh in or with-in the park you are ok..."I Think"??
So you should be able to go to like a cleaning station or your camp site with live fish????????

sounds like another piss poor ploitical excuse to harass the outdoorsman and get more money out of us to fund the stuff thats going broke from political corruption and money mismanagement. thats why ill do it and not even worry about it. sorry thats just my opinoin but they make these laws so hard to understand and give out tickets to those who dont deserve them. fisherman have been doing this for hundreds of years and its fine. mother nature will survive it for another 100 im sure.
so did they lock up the morons that were studing and using these asian carp that had them in ponds in flood plains by rivers? if they are so worried about thier spread why did they allow them in the us to begin with? all i use are bluegills from one water to another and im pretty sure i can id a bluegill from a juvinile bighead. and if the bluegill aint coughing hes not sick lmao. this is america. where im free to break laws lol. just kidding. funny though.

They give special rights in Bass tourneys only. That is the reason for the Bass Pass. You purchase one for $12.50 and you can weigh in two fish that are the 15" state wide minimum even if that is shorter than the special minimum length limit of the body you are fishing. The Bass Pass also lets you cull fish after you have reached your 5 fish limit. When catfishing, if the lake limit is 5 blues, then once you hit 5 you can not cull smaller fish for bigger ones, even if you are fishing a tourney. I know tourney guys, and 95% of catfishermen don't follow that rule, but it is the law none the less. Just trying to put it into perspective that there are a lot of stupid rules and KDWP don't really give a crap about us blue cat, flathead and channel cat fisherman. They only make exceptions for Bass.
Back on subject, Tom is correct. You don't have to kill the fish before you load up the boat. You have to kill them before you leave the lake.

Even that can depend on which side of the bed the gamey got up on.
The way I read it, The boat has to be drained leaving ANY Kansas water onto a public highway. Nothing says you can't put the fish in a tank in the bed of the truck. The fish only have to be dead leaving a ANS lake.
I usually put my fish on ice when I leave the lake any way, so it don't matter much to me.
