On star drag reels of ANY brand...
Do you prefer a fine thread gear sleeve or coarse thread?
To the polls once again!

I voted for either fine or coarse thread, no preference.
When repairing or upgrading my star drag reels I stick with whatever thread type my Penn reels came stock with, but I've noticed many if not all the newer Penn conventional reels have fine thread gear sleeves on the star drag.
I would assume that the fine thread gear sleeves on star drags would allow for stronger torque to be applied, though.
P.S. Yeppers, I'm a fan of older USA made Penn conventional reels but I want folks to feel free to take the poll no matter what brand or origin of assembly/manufacture their reels are.
How 'bout it, peeps?
I'm curious and it's cold and rainy outside so no fishing until tomorrow!

Don't know if the threads would make much of a difference. I think the way the belleville washers are stacked will have more effect on the drag. I have no knowledge on Penns. Omoto, ABU and Akios reels in the 7000 size all have the same size threads.

Here's a pic of a typical gear sleeve for a star drag reel...
The pic shows a coarse thread gear sleeve for a Penn conventional star drag reel and the pin that holds it in place on the bridge post.
The gear sleeve and pin shown in the pic is made of brass but many folks prefer a stainless steel gear sleeve and pin.

I noticed the hard way LOL!
When I was a kid first working on fishing reels I made the mistake of forcing a coarse thread star wheel onto a fine thread gear sleeve on one of my fave Penn conventional reels and had to wait weeks for a replacement gear sleeve and star wheel.

Fishing reel parts weren't easy to find in a small West Texas town in the 70's and I had to mail order hoping I had read the reel schematic correctly!
Luckily I got the order right and haven't made the same mistake since!
Lesson learned! (Knock wood...)

LOL! I'm waaaaaaaaaay too geeky to do that LOL!
I have too much fun tinkerin' around with reels to trash them!

Gives me something to do when it's too cold to fish!
Lately I've been experimenting with different reel lubes and am very impressed with Corrosion X and Reel X.
Speaking of "X"...
"I heard it, I heard it, I heard it on the X!" ZZ Top!
Hope ya have a great 2012 fishing season, Big G!

LOL, I guess I have never thought about it, so I don't have a preference.
