Sleazy Drift Weighs >>> continued
Brother cheap&disgusting requested that I test his Sleazy weights to see how they would stack up against the Slinky weighs that a lot of us have been using for the past ten years or so. I was glad to do this for him and I tested them for 15 hours on Lake Norman. The first three hours I pulled four side planer boards and two regular rigs out the back, all missing hooks. I staggered the Slinkies and the Sleazies so that all would be subject to the same under water brush and other debris. Thus I power drifted with just the weighs. I lost several Slinkies in this test and no Sleazies. For the next two trips of three hours each I went fishing with them, using three Sleazies and three Slinkies. My lost ratio of Slinkies to Sleazies was four+ to one. The next two trips of three hours each I used a combination of the Sleazy and my retrofitted Slinkies which made them almost like the Sleazies. Over six hours of power drifting, I had hangups with my retrofitted Slinkies and lost some terminal gear and only one retrofitted Slinky and one Sleazie, which I recovered when another line crossed over it and connected. At a dollar each when you buy Slinkies via volume or $1.50 to $2.00 each when you just buy a set makes a big difference in money lost in the lake or river by giving the Sleazy a try.
Here is how I retrofitted the Slinkies. I cut the beaver tail (flat area where the hole is located to run the fishing line thru) on the front and rear of the Slinkie so that it would be tapered like the Sleazy. From that point on, I followed Cheaps method of making his Sleazies. Also, I bought some line sliders to attached the Original Sleazy to and my retrofitted ones. I have a gallon of shad oil and I will be giving all my drift weighs a soaking, which I think is an excellent idea. The more scent we can drag on the bottom, the better.
Cheap is not going to sell his Sleazies, but is offering his "How To" to the membership of the USCA and that is a mighty fine thing for him to do. I have already given him an "ATTA BOY" for this fine gesture. If you like his Sleazy and what he has done for the membership, PM him and let him know that you appreciated what he has offered us.
