Just to elaborate to my super short post above, I did stay at New Amsterdam last year. I also stayed at Rocky Point. These were my first two experiences on the Ohio. There were a couple people at N.A. when I was there, but it sure felt like I owned the place! It was deathly quiet and was RIGHT on the river. I caught fish right on the other side. Actually I caught my first wipers from the bank, not 40 feet from my tent, before I ever even had the boat ready to go in. Loved it there and it was a pleasure to fish with Shaun and Scott! They definitely took the time to show me the river! There's only 3 things I wish could have been better there, and none of them would stop me from going back. The hill going down to the ramp is awfully steep. I had to put it in 4wd at one point to get back up, but I decided to tackle the steep side and not the "curvy" side. The curvy side has a more gently slope, but turns sharply and has a steep hill on one side. They still have outhouses there. First time I had ever actually seen one in person. Not the greatest in the dark, but manageable. I don't remember what the hours were for the store right there, but getting ice could have been easier. The only fill up I did get was when Shaun went to Walmart. I think something was going on with the person that owns the store's family that weekend. That said, I would STILL go back there. I'm sure I will this summer no matter where we have the outing. I had more troubles at Rocky point than I did at N.A. It was louder, had more people, and less room to roam at Rocky Point. Of course there was a huge bass tournament when I stayed there too, that didn't help anything. Oh, and as far as bait goes, I can bring enough frozen shad for at least 30 of us. TRUST ME, I bought another freezer just for shad and it's full to the top with 12-16 inchers!!!! I haven't seen a time when they wouldn't eat shad, but I haven't spent much time down there either. I know some people would disagree, but so far, they haven't failed me.Told ya, I owned the place ;)

P1020063.jpg One other thing to think about
: as warm as this winter has been the cats may spawn earlier than normal. I would rather be there early FOR SURE than to plan this and end up fishing for spawning fish!! The water is already warmer than normal for this time of year and it won't take as much warmer weather for it to warm to spawning temps. My one vote would be for early June before late June or July. I'll be back down there before that time this year!!! ( somehow I can't seem to format this the way I want to!!! :( )
