Oh to chase the bunnies. I have a few beagles and we run bunnies all the time. Some times I shoot the bunnies and eat some dumplings. Love to hunt the rabbits and hear the dogs run.

I like huntin bunnies. I like a .22 but if I'm with a bunch of others sometimes I use a 12 ga. A .22 goes thru em, but with the shotgun I gotta check real good for pellets. I like huntin cotton tails till Feb sometime, then jackrabbits. Hard to find a place where someone gonna let ya hunt nowdays. Used to be plenty places, abandoned farms and groves. Now most are bulldozed. Need to get some wind breaks to keep the dirt on the fields lately, groves mostly all gone. Sometimes I just find a nice sunny day and go road hunting. One day got 3 rabbits sittin in the brush by the side of the road. I saw em there, got out loaded up and figured I'd get one or two, but I planned it and shot the first, the second didn't have time to move, and the third just started to hop. Just love that 870.

This time of year I just pray for about 2 inches of snow so me and the hounds can chase the bunnies. The snow makes it easier to see them little brown speed demons slipping ahead of the dogs. There is nothing sweeter than to hear a pack of hounds in crisp winter morning work a trail out. It is pure joy to watch the pups work and the old dogs work steady on the trail. I have one mutt that is about a year old and she runs and jumps high in the air to see if she can see the bunny to chase it. It is funny to watch. The other day she ran and jumped high in the air and almost landed on a rabbit and it took off and scared the pup who went the other way. Good Times.
