If I could get a dozen 8" or better chubs I would take them, otherwise I would say gills.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with you guys. I've had better success on cut trout. Most times I've used whole trout, all it did was sit there untouched.

i usually get about 20 gills and 10-15 chubs, most days all they want is gills live or cut and wont even touch chubs. it pisses me off because the creek i live by is loaded with chubs, but the pond i use for gills gets a little low on good sized bait.
i need to get a good bait tank, the gills are fine in a large cooler for my two hour ride to the river. the chubs are so hard to keep alive.

I recall a day about 6 years ago where fellow USCA member "Catchinghogs" came up to fish the Allegheny with me. Mark brought a cooler full of live Chubs. There was near 50 in the cooler and we didn't make it through the night before using them all. The Cats loved them. Think we put around 2 dozen fish in the boat. That night sold me on Chubs.

If I had to depend on chubs for bait, I'n never catch a fish. Not because they don't work. It's because I suck at catching bait!
