If I had to depend on chubs for bait, I' never catch a fish. Not because they don't work. It's because I suck at catching bait!

Its not that you suck at catching bait, its all about the spots. If you are in the right spot, you will catch alot! Even catch them in minnow traps. The secret to a great bait spot is........Not one other fisherman fishing it. You gotta find fishing holes way of the trails, hard to get to, or not even stocked for trout. When a creek/stream isnt stocked with trout, It will definitely be a great bait creek for suckers/fallfish/creek chubs. Once you find it your gold untill you fish the darn thing out like I did

I recall a day about 6 years ago where fellow USCA member "Catchinghogs" came up to fish the Allegheny with me. Mark brought a cooler full of live Chubs. There was near 50 in the cooler and we didn't make it through the night before using them all. The Cats loved them. Think we put around 2 dozen fish in the boat. That night sold me on Chubs.

Chubs are probably the best bait for catfish in general. Like said before they are a pain to keep alive in the summer heat.

i dont feed my bait because then they poop and dirty up the tank, and when i catch bait i let them sit in a 5 gallon bucket for about an hour before i put them in my tank so they get everything out of their system.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with you guys. I've had better success on cut trout. Most times I've used whole trout, all it did was sit there untouched.

if that happens Jimmy get the knife out and poke a few slits in it and send it back out.

i found a few creeks that i can catch chubs that are 8"-11" and can get alot of them, so far ive only fished one of them out. ive also had no problem keeping them alive during the summer. i use a cooler and keep a bunch of ice in the water to keep the temperature down.

true that. i had a great spot for them awhile back. then some dillweed found it and trapped them all out. he cleaned it out but good and now there aren't any in there.

Even sections of Approved trout waters can be honey holes if they arent sections that are stocked. A couple of my better bait spots are in approved trout waters, but are areas that dont get trout, so very few people fish them. Now my rock bass holes, on the other hand, are right in the middle of prime trout water.

What's the biggest suckers or chubs you get in your standard off the shelf minnow trap. I've got a honey hole w small carp suckers chubs and big fatheads. The biggest ones are 6-7" but I've never fished it w rod and reel. Think im missing out cuz the holes in the trap are too small?
