    Default lake fishing bait question

A twist inspired by anothers thread on river fishing with floats. I fish two lakes from shore. One in particular is Lake Nockamixon. There is a current from the damned river that feeds it. All of the shore spots are around the weed beds. The other (Greenlane Reservoir) doesnt have weed beds or as much of a current. I usually use chicken liver on the bottom. My last time out, I tried a bobber and hooked a large channel cat with a circle hook. I've tried 3 way rig but seems more hassle then worth. But what about using a float either above the hook to keep it off the bottom or just using a bobber? What is a good nite fishing bobber? Im half tempted to zip tie a glow stick to a thill instead of those reg. nite bobber. They look chinsy for the price.

Glow stick is your best option because they are cheap, easy to get and do a good job of lighting up your bobber at night.

X3 on the Kat Bobbers... Haven't actually used them yet because I just got them, but they do have a hole in the top for a glow stick for night fishing. Sounds like exactly what you're looking for.

I fourth (x4) the Katbobbers-used them for the first time late summer on a night tourney and it was fun watching that bobber zip across the water like a torpedo when a fish grabbed the bait

i use a drop shot rig with 2-3 feet between the sinker and hook to get my bait off the bottom when its real grassy. i was never big on bobbers, though they do have their place, and i will use them in certain instances. fishing deep water i use the drop shot, fishing shallower water with live minnows i will use a bobber. last time i used the drop shot while catfishing i ended up with my personal best largemouth bass. last time i used a minnow under a bobber it was close to bank around a dock in clear water. i was catching nice big white perch that morning, then out of nowhere as im lazing around half sleep i peak over into the water at my minnow which is swimming around with some bluegills and a nice eater sized cat comes from under the dock. im watching as he kicks it in high gear and takes off to the school of bluegills and eats my minnow but just sits there with the minnow and my hook in his mouth with my bobber underwater. i was so interested in watching i forgot to set the hook, set it eventually and caught a nice 3lb channel on my light weight rod with small line, pretty fun to see all that though

The drop shot option is one that is forgotten when fishing with floats in lakes by tying your hook up the main line and tying your sinker on the end of your main line you can pin your bait to a specific spot and keep it up out of the weeds by adding a float.Usually you have to be directly over the top of a dropshot rig adding a float lets you fish it wherever you can cast it.
