How far upriver do the Shad run? I am in the Raleigh area and was wondering how far east I would have to go to catch them. Thanks for any advice.

Much appreciated. We have been kayaking on the Eno waiting for the White Bass run. Would like to get my bearings on the Neuse with the Shad and then jump into some spring and summer Cat fishing.

I have heard people say that the shad get so thick at the Milburnie Dam that you can walk across the river on their backs. That maybe a little exajurated, but I can imagine that their would be a large number of shad in the area during the Spring because they can't travel past the dam to spawn, so its the stopping point. There are plans to remove the dam so the fish can move further upstream to spawn. I am not sure that the dam will ever be removed, but the idea is getting alot of attention as of late. As far as the cats go, there are some big ones caught below the dam, but you have to be willing to venture out to secluded spots that do not see many fisherman. Hope this helps, good luck and catch some bigguns.

The Neuse gave up a few tonight including my wife's personal best, a very fat 7lb. channel. I know it is not a monster but it is the biggest she has ever caught and she is giddy with excitement. She is too funny, I can't wait for her to get a 20lb or more on the line. Last year she would go catfishing with me and fish for bream until she accidentally caught a small flathead, which got her interested in catfish. After tonight she is hooked for sure.
