Neuse River 2012!!!

Man this forum is great. Local guys fishing for local cats! I have lived in Raleigh for about ten years and have never tried the Neuse River. I have fished for Cats in lake Gaston and Falls on our Carolina Skiff and done pretty well at times using Live Bream and Cut baits on Carolina rigs.

My brother and I recently bought some Fishing Kayaks and I am pumped to get out on the river. I have not done much if any river fishing so any advice would be welcome. Probably wait till it warms up a bit before we hit the water but was wondering for some advice on catching big cats around the Raleigh area.

Was planning on doing the Milburnie Dam to Pool road run as soon as possible.

Hey guys wheres the best boat ramp to put in around pitchkettle and should I go up river or down river for some big cats and a few shad?

Went out last night to try my luck. Started around 8 and left around 1:30. 6 fish all together all of them around 5-9 pounds. Nothing to brag about but was nice to finally do some fishing. I could have done without the wind though!

Congrats on catching some fish!!! I have been skunked the last few times that I have been. Were you fishing near Raleigh or further down stream?

I fish the neuse in Clayton and had alot of good luck there. Last year was my first year down hear and my first nice size cat 33lbs now Iam hooked cant wait to get out there this year with more knowledge and a boat.

Does anyone know how far up the shad are? Thinking about the ferry bridge area on Sat.
