I get mine out of farm ponds. I use my perch traps baited with liver. If you fish for them liver or worms works good.

Bullheads are very hardy and can live in muddy ponds with low oxygen levels where very few other species will make it. But I've caught more out of small creeks say 15' to 25' wide that have holes of water at least 3' to 6' on redworms and nightcrawlers. I've never trapped them and sometimes they are hard to catch because of bluegill, suckers, and other species. Right at dark and a few hours after are good times for them to bite. I'd use about a size 1 or 2 long shanked hook because bullheads are really bad to swallow the hook and the long shank aids in hook extraction. Maybe you could use small pieces of cut bait and discourage other species from hitting.
