get your shrimp with the shell still on and add a whole container of garlic powder(with some water) and let it sit in the sun. I had some luck with channels using this when I first started out. if I were you id skip the shrimp and get some fresh cutbait.

I fish shrimp two ways
Plain, no scent added - I do like to let them ripen a bit so I take them out of the freezer a couple of days ahead.
And the second is I marinate them in a ziploc bag with chicken livers/blood. They both work, but the marinated ones seem a little more productive.
Shell off in both cases.

I have used them without scent & it worked for me, also have put garlic powder on them which also works. I rarely use shrimp anymore though, cutbait is the way I go now.

Always have great luck using Anise oil. works on catfish to steelhead. some folks I know use strawberry jello. adds color and a different flavor. if all else fails good old garlic. good luck.
