Default Mississippi River near Baton Rouge

We went fishing a couple of times this week near Darrow. Caught an 9 lb flattie, an 8 lb and two 5 lb bluecats. Unfortunately, there is no place to put a boat in between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. The Donaldsonville ramp is completely silted in and that is the only one there is that I am aware of. We used to put in at a stevedore company near Darrow and it has now been posted, With the water so low (9 ft at Baton Rouge) it would have been impossibleto launch and recover anyway. It is a shame to have one of the best fisheries in the country and have no boat access to it. Over the last 7 years we have caught thousands of catfish there and apparently this is all over! What a bummer! The bank fishing was ok but lots of tiny bait stealing cats are all over.

It sucks to be cutoff from such a good fishing hole just because the state is too cheap to build ramps to the river. The only alternative would be to
purchase a strip of land and build your own. That would open up another can of worms altogether because of the silt one would have to also need
equipment to keep the ramp clean.

John, if you cross the "new" bridge I10 going west towards Lafayette, take the first exit (La 1) south cross over the inter-coastal canal, take the first right onto the service road and follow it back around to the inter-coastal canal. Fish in the Inter-coastal with Night Crawlers or Shad. I have seen some really nice fish caught off the bank.

Excellent suggestion! Weekends can be crowded. The locks nearby help water to keep moving
