took a reporter out for a ccc article
went out last night to give a novice fisherman a shot at a big fish. he has a article where he challenges folks at what they do.
THE CHALLENGE: help John (the reporter) catch a fish over 20lb and try to beat him by nights end LOL
well now for the reoprt . bait was easy to catch and in a half hour had enough for a flatthead trip. went for a quick tour of the lake to show him the sites, then off to the task at hand. went to some of my favorite spots that normally hold big fish. we sat for close to a 1.5 hours then the first pull happened. John's biggest fish to date was around 10lb,( back to the pull). the rod gave a slow arch then very slowly loaded all the way down, i told him to wait till he couldn't take it no more. ( i knew it was going to be big ) he grabbed the rod and the fight was on. he did well and landed his first flatthead and his PB fish @ a whopping 37lb 9oz, first challenge down but the night wasn't over. well we moved with no improvment in the bite. now it was late so we made one more move to find fish, we anchored in 8' near a river drop into 30'. put the last of the bait on and waited. the wind was bad real bad i would say gusting near 25mph +. it didn't take long 15min. we put one rod off the front with the clickers on so he could hear what a run was like, and boy did he hear it. slow at first then screaming. it was my turn to catch a fish and it was a challenge . i knew at the hook up that it was a good fish so now the pressure was on him to get it in the net for me, well he had the lead for awhile  but it is my boat and my home court, after a few min. i took him down a peg and landed a nice flatt at 40lb 15 oz. it started out slow but it was a good night in the end.we caught 5 flatts 1 blue and a channel and i won both challenges (get him a trophy fish and catch one bigger than his ) this will be good for the club and the sport, he said he will help promote things for us and do a write-up about us every once in awhile. thanks again to the lake wylie pilot and staff reporter John Marks for a great night and also Cary for the bait and coming out with us.
i will post some pics and the release date of the papper later
