This reminds me of a family set up fancy camping chairs, coolers, grill and umbrella on the ramp at Melton Hill and saw a boater squealing his tires in anger as he drove up and saw their carcasses all sprawled out on only ramp for miles. They weren't even fishing! People around here just like to have picnics on the lake and sit for hours, bring enough food for a week or let their dogs "play" in the water right beside someone fishing.
You have lots of mental problems with many of the Oak Ridge people, especially those who have lived there too long. I call it "Oak Ridge-itis". My sisters both have this mental illness.

i tell you what. ive seen some complete morons around here but putting a tent at the dock. i think me and him would have been rolling in the dirt. unbelieveable the stupidity of some people that actually think they can do that.

when i pull into the dock at the ramp here at night and folks are fishing form the dock i just shoot right in. i dont even watch to see where thier lines are or nothing. its a dock for unloading and loading boats. they should either reel up or not be there fishing. thats how i feel about that. granted if theres a lot of room ill go to other end but the small ones i dont worry about it. kind of like when i walk into a store and 5-6 people who decide to stand and block an entire isle to chit-chat. i wait about 3 seconds and charge through and rudly say "nice place for a pic-nic." and they look at me like im rude. get the hell out of the way.:devilish:

come on if you want to visit fine. just dont do it in between the entry doors at wal mart. go in and find a corner. not the action alley isle.

i think ive told this one but its funny too. i was backing my boat in and stopped to unstrap. this basshole was flipping lures along the rocks by the ramp. keep in mind a 5000 acre lake. so time i get unstraped hes right in the way of the ramp. i started to back up and got the boat right at the top of ramp. he just kept flipping lures. i waited my usual 3-4 seconds as he slowly trolled along flipping. and i hit the gas hard and didnt let up. he actually fell down reving up that trolling motor to avoid getting hit by the rear of my boat. he never said a word. time i got out he was trolling off. when folks are hogging a traffic area i have a real problem with anger management because of being crowded.

I get real upset and have little patience for other boaters at the ramps, not all of them, just the ones that sit in line for their turn to launch or load and don't get anything ready tll they are halfway down the ramp, they stop get out and proceed to slowly untie their boat, load there stuff in it from the back of the truck, put in the plug, and all that stuff that could have been done while they waited, or before getting on the ramp, so after 1/2 hour of watching these people trying to back the boat up you think they are finally about done and then they stop and spend another 1/2 hour loading and readying their boat. Same thing with loading the boat, slide it on the trailer and hook up the nose strap then get it up off the ramp and to the drain area, instead of pulling it halfway out and then stopping on the ramp to put all your stuff away and drain the boat, etc. The ones that cannot back up I try to understand for awhile, after about the thrird attempt I am offering to back their boat in for them, it pisses them off, I know, but if you can't back a trailer up find a empty lot near home and try practicing for awhile, it's not that freaking hard, and stop trying to turn around to see where your trailer is going, those things hanging off the doors of your truck are called mirrors, learn to use them! ranting here, this gets me worked up every time, thank god they finally put a few new ramps in at the lake I fish the most, when it was just one ramp the wait could get terrible on busy days.

Yes, Goby, this disease Oakridge-itis is really hard to explain. Some folks might be born in Oak Ridge, live their entire lives there and never catch it. Others move in from other towns or places and pick up the disease almost instantly. My dad worked over there for years in some radioactive spots, he became ill but never caught Oakridge-itis. I worked there (but not at the plants) for 3 years and caught nary a trace of it. It's a mental thing. Here are several symptoms to look for if you suspect someone has this disease. One may develop Oakridge-itis and never show all the symptoms:

    1. They think going to Carbide Park aka Clark Center Park is "getting away from it all."

    2. They think going to Solway is "getting away from it all."

    3. Wearing nerdy helmets and riding bicycles on the white line down Illinois Avenue.

    4. They think Shoney's, Big Ed's Pizza, Lincoln's Bar and Grill and Red Lobster are "high society restaurants."

    5. They think everybody from other towns in Anderson County (Clinton, Lake City, Norris, or Oliver Springs) are illiterate rednecks.

    6. They think everybody from Roane County, Morgan County, and Campbell County are illiterate rednecks.

    7. They smell meth cooking next door and just think the smell is fallout from Y-12 plant.

    8. They have no idea what the names of their next door neighbors are and they've lived next to them for 40 years.

    9. They let their children run loose in the street hoping they can get hurt and collect insurance.

10.They wouldn't know the difference between a cow puckey from a horse biscuit or the difference between a catfish and a carp.

11.They buy their hamburger from Walmart.

12.Some walk down the street talking to themselves.

13.With 1/2 mile of clear shorline, duck feeders decide to throw their stale bread within a few feet of a lone fisherman

Yes, thank God it isn't contagious and most people are immune to this disease. I was picking blackberries in Norris one day, and a young couple with the Oak Ridge Wildcats bumper sticker and an Auburn Tigers license plate stopped by and commented, "Don't you know those are poisonous berries?"

I guess my take on Oak Ridgers is a little different, but I probably shouldn't go there here. . Poisonous blackberries is a new one for me. Wonder where they learned that? My fave was a kid who was laughing at me for spitting on knot as I was tying on lure as he thought this was crude and thinks I am lying that that is standard procedure to wet the line to tie and usually people spit. He also thought I was looney using nail clippers to cut lines even though all the fishing supply companies sell them and every older fisherman I tagged along with growing up had clippers in tacklebox. Not to mention I found a pair on the bank recently, so I know I'm not the only one. Meanwhile said kid prefers to use what he calls hemostats to trim line or else teeth and use fingers, not pliers, to unhook fish. Noticed even among grown men the preferred line trimmer is teeth, which the local dentists must love. What amazes me is anyone who will put in their mouth something that 5 seconds earlier was in the nasty river that has raw sewage, PCBs, lead, mercury, gasoline, bird poop, fish poop and cow manure runoff from the hundreds of farms. Think I'd rather use nail clippers. For some reason what irritates me the most is the locals who can't comprehend what a White Bass is and that not every white fish with stripes is a Striper or that they can't take 50 of them home per day to put in freezer or the folks that call White and Yellow bass Perch or better yet Smallmouths. And have had several tell me the rainbow trout you can plainly see in the pond at Clinton Park are largemouth bass. :D

I think I mentioned it already somewhere, but maybe not this thread. A young fisherman at Bull Run Steam Plant caught a skipjack, and walked under the railroad tracks to ask me what type of bass it was. I told him it wasn't a bass, it was a skipjack, a member of the herring family and also related to the shad. I asked what was he fishing for, and he said catfish. I told him to chunk that skipjack up and throw it out for bait. He said the game warden came by pretty often and he didn't want to be caught fishing with bass for bait. I bet those folks who think blackberries are poisonous learned it at Auburn University in Alabama. I'm not kidding, you have residents in Oak Ridge with so much education they don't have a lick of common sense. But I will admit one thing. Lots of the arrests in Oak Ridge are backwoods cretins who live in the same neck of the woods as I do, the Oliver Springs, Morgan County, Petros, and New River area. Oak Ridge used to be a great place back in the 1950s until the late 1970s. Was probably even better even before I was born.

Funny I fish Bull Run a lot and have yet to see the game warden there or anywhere else. As far as I know you could use bass for bait if you wanted to. Don't recall seeing that in regs book being illegal. We must not be running into the same folks because I find very few people in Oak Ridge highly educated. Most everyone in these parts sorry to say seem functionally illiterate, naive and cannot think on their own. I am fairly well educated, yet do know what blackberries and all the fish species are. I can also comprehend that the trout regulations apply to everyone and that natives of Norris are not given a special allowance to keep as many trout and of any size they want. Yet I've had men tell me I didn't know what I was talking about when I quoted the trout regs for Clinch River and Norris tailwaters. Also had a guy tell me I was a stupid broad and didn't know how to fish when he saw my Carolina Rig. He ripped it off and put on a couple split shot and said that is how you are SUPPOSE to fish. I guess its just dumb luck then I've caught so many fish on those Carolina rigs. These aren't the educated folks telling me this, these are the local rednecks who probably didn't even complete high school. So I guess one's mileage may vary.

Yep, you can fish bass for bait as long as they are legal keeping size. And Oak Ridge has been taken over by illiterates in the past 15 years or so. I ran into lots of those educated/no common sense folks when I went to Carbide Park on company picnics when I was a teenager and my dad was a union steward at Y-12. Most of those educated folks have now moved to Knoxville, Norris, or some of the more prestigious areas of Oak Ridge and fish Norris Lake or hang out at Turkey Creek shopping area... A Carolina Rig is definitely more effective than two clamp on sinkers, just a little harder to tie. I attended Clinton High School at the time our educational system was on par and ahead of Oak Ridge for a couple years, but not now. Really I haven't fished the Norris, Bull Run, MH Reservoir much lately, so things may have changed. Most of the people I've seen at Bull Run Stm Plt the last few times are throwing big plugs at least a foot long for muskie or buy live trout up at Edgemoor Bait Shop and use those.

Me neither. I've been burned before. If it is a large place, things are different.
