    Default dough bait help

Made some strawberry dough balls yesterday (jello, flour, oatmeal) to go fishing for carp/catfish... ended up catching 4 2-3 pound cats. The only probably was keeping the bait on the hook...it was really sticky and hard to even put it on the hook (was sticking to my hand) Is there anyway to make the bait like play dough or red clay consistency so I can actually put a little umphhhh in my cast and the bait doesnt fall off after 5 mins in the water????

Is sounds like you need to add a little more flour to it. That will make it to where it is not so sticky. I use a lot of flour when I make dough bait.

I had that problem once before and rather than throw it out and waste it, I rig it like my chicken livers. Get you some panty hose and cut 4 inch squares, next take a #4 treble hook and place ontop the hose. Next glob all you can on the hook, do not worry if it gets over the hose and all over. Next take pliers and grab the hook shank and use another pair to grap a corner of the hose and pull it around the shank and over one of the hook barbs, continue to do each corner util it is secure and the hooks are showing. You should have a nice ball of bait that will not come off. I have caught multiple fish on the same ball of bait using hose this way. The only way it comes off is with those pliers and you tear it off.

My magic dough bait is crushed Wheaties, water and vanilla. Crush up a bowl of Wheaties, add some vanilla and little water. You will mix up and keep adding small amounts of water, you do not want too much water. This stuff has a sticky concistency. Once it feels right (slightly hard and holds shape) you can bait multiple treble hooks (no pantyhose for this). After that I set in the sun for around 1 hour. It gets so hard you can fling it a mile and it stays on a long time. Caught many cats and even big carp on that stuff. Good luck.
