What type of hook?

I lost two nice fish the other day while fishing a slip rig bobber. I was using a 2/0 khale hook. Do you think this was the cause? This is the first time I have fished a slip rig bobber and have only fished the bottom, and have never had any problems with these hooks. Do you think circle hooks would be better to hook them off the bobber? Thanks!

I think it is personal prefrence in all.honesty. i use both khale and circle. it jus depends what your fishing with. like i dont reall care for treble hooks to i use a khale hook with my liver in panty hose because it leaves more hook exposed. And i use circle hooks on my furry thangs for dip bait.

I use 5/0 kahles under a bobber with no problems at all, I don't do circle hooks, Octo-J's are alright also, but under a bobber I would stick to the kahle or even a plain old strait shank J hook, they do the job well. what kind of bait are you using, and if you have gar around they will go after suspended baits alot, and 99% of them you will never get a hook stuck into.

Circle for sure. use a heavy enough bobber and they'll just hook themselves. then reel em in. my buddy uses HUGE kahle hooks cuz he loves to hook the fish himself. also keep in mind that if your fishin for channels they dont take the bait like flatheads do (most of the time). my buddy has a HUGE aquarium at his house with a couple channels in it and we feed them different baits to see how they take em. they'll grab it, drop it, grab it, drop it. 4 or 5 times before they actaully decide to eat it. so it'll look like youre getting a hit but nothin. Circle hook on the bottom with lots of slack has always givin me the best results.

Thanks for the input guys. I was just curious because most of the fish I catch on the bottom almost swallows the bait. I figured this was because I gave them time to run with it versus possibly barely grabbing the bait thats suspended. Thanks again!

Stick with the Kahel hook. There's no need for a circle as kahels are the best of both world's.

For channel cats I like circle hooks. I don't have to set the hook, and let them hook themselves. If I use a J hook, I miss about 1/2 the bites. Maybe a bigger hook would help.

Not to start a circle hook conventional hook debate again but, the kahle almost always hooks the fish itself on both flatheads and channels for me, I use big floats of my own design, they are made from the hard foam swimming pool rope floats that go on the rope to keep it floating to mark off different depths or swimming lanes in the pool. I fish a fairly good sized live bait under them, put rod in sturdy bank holder after the cast, the float will sink down as the fish takes it and runs, when the slack is out he hits the end and it hooked, 99.9% it is a corner of the mouth hookup or a top of the mouth hook up, works for me really well so far. sometimes I reel down on them if I make it to the rod before they hook themselves, then I just take up the slack and cross their eyes,fight on.

I dont like kahle or circle hooks. I only use Tru Turn 722 anymore and we only fish bobbers and have great success with them. These always seem to hook them in jaw bone. A friend of mine only uses circle hooks and loves them. We argue about them all the time. You need to just find a hook your have faith in and go with it.No faith in your hook and your not gonna do as well.

circle hook = perfection, always in the corner of the mouth, 20 plus channels this year all between 3 to 7 lbs have not lost one yet.
