Hi Floyd, I'd say even without trotlines or jugs you'd stand a pretty good chance. Besides, I wouldn't wanna chase my jugs all over that end of the river and I'd bet more than half would wind up caught in snags. I don't know if I'd try a storebought trotline up there either. I used to use those at rend when I first started runnin setlines until I had two that got stripped of all the hooks when a big one took the clip and ran it down the line. I do have a couple of home-made ten hook flathead trots that you could borrow if you want. They have 10/0 mustad demon circles, barrel swivels and heavy cord. Just p.m. me if you want. GOOD LUCK!!!!

we normally set our 6 trotlines and leave just enough legal hooks to rod n reel fish in the down time. But that's big time overkill. This year I'm gonna set 2-3 trotlines and rod n reel the rest of the time.

Just got in from over that way . We went to scout out the area and do some fishing . North of the ramp a few miles the depth is around 15 to 20 feet . South of the ramp a few miles its 22 to 33 feet deep .
North of the bridge the water is moving pretty good , South of the bridge it is moving good but the river widens out so it ain't so bad . We fished about a 6 mile stretch and found a creek that was 15 foot deep and fished it also .
We either had the wrong bait or ? cause it was tough fishing , one bite all night and it was a 2 pound channel . We was using shad , shad gut , and skip jack .
Where the heck is the fish over there ? :>

New to the site but, know a few people here. Fish the Kaskaskia pretty often and have alwyas had our best luck south of New Athens. For some reason never did worth a darn when we were north of there. Went a couple weeks ago and caught 6 over 15lbs all blues though only a few small flatties. Goin down to set some lines tonight will report back tomorrow and let you guys know how we did.

Welcome to the site Kurt . I always have good luck up near Carlyle in the Kaskaskia . Used to fish near New Athens down to Baldwin 20 + years ago and always did pretty good . Last night at the Fayetteville area of river is the worst trip I have possibly ever had . It looked great and the fish were there on the finder , but couldn't get them to bite worth a dang .

I used to do real good jugging between New Athens and Fayetteville but for pole and line fishing, with one exception, I always went north of Fayetteville. The further north the better was the general rule.
