Has anyone used or know anything about Vortex rifle scopes?
One of our local stores started selling Vortex scopes. Just looking at one in the store I noticed they had a lot of good features. I looked at the Viper PST in 2.5 -10 power and the 6-24 power. Both had an illuminated reticle. They also make a 4-16 and a 1-4 power in that model. I hear they have great customer service but I like to buy products where I don't usually need customer service, but every manufacturer throws out a lemon occasionally. The razor line apparently is the top model in their line up but I have not looked at one of these models yet. They also have cheaper models also. My question is whether or not anyone owns one or has any knowledge of their reliability.

I can't say anything about Vortex because I have never sold them nor used them. If it was a ATN, Barska, Burris, BSA, Bushnell, EO Tech, Hawke, Millet, Simmons, Tasco, Trijicon, or Zeiss, I may could have helped you some regarding quality and value and whether it was a good price they were offering or not.

I have a 24 power scope. When I'm shooting at 400-500 yard targets I've got it on 16.
The thing you have to be careful about in those large ranges of powers is the scope being able to hold zero through the entire range.
In other words, it aint worth a flip to be dead eye dick at 9 power and scope it up to 18 and suck ass.
The reason I shoot 16 power is because I get the best clarity and wobble stability at those ranges.
you get too much much optic power on target, scope wobble is magnified. At long range, that translates into inches and feet.
IMO 16 power is plenty for 500 yards and under.
I shoot at 2 liter drink bottles and don't have a problem seeing or hitting.
Hell I can do those with 9 power but 16 power isn't too much or too little for me.
