My Bait Tank Setup

I've got a 150 gallon tank from Farm and Fleet. Had it in the basement for cleaning out river caught channels. Moved it next to the garage with the power and air hose going into the garage through a half inch hole. Air pump is from a hydroponics store with a manifold that connects to 4 lines and stones. Filtration is a 500 or so GPH pond pump hooked into a canister type, 3 gallon filter. There is a coarse and fine foam screen in the filter but, I added a half gallon of that carbon ammonia absorbing stuff. I also added some pillow stuffing for extra fine particles in the water. It works great. Baits (gills) are happy as can be. Very lively. I change out half of the water about every 3 weeks just to keep the nitrates down to an acceptable level. I'll add a small bottle of chlorine eliminator just to be on the safe side. You'll know when nitrates are too high when you start to get an algae bloom and cloudy water. It's not the perfect setup, but it works for me. I hope this helps some of you who are thinking about putting in a bait tank. Sure is handy not having to go bait hunting every time you want to go flathead hunting. As far as feeding the gills is concerned. Every couple weeks I throw in about 10 bucks worth of crappie minnows. They disappear fast.
