Welcome aboard Luke!
I'll answer like this, it depends on where you are fishing. How deep is the water, is the bottom full of trash or flat, are you tight lining or free spooling. Where are the fish feeding that time of year. I use both depending on surroundings and those other factors. They both have a place in your fishing arsenal.

Hey RedneckOutdoors where in FL are you from? Do you fish river or lakes or both? Like the others said here, the rig depends on where your fishing. I use 3-way more often cause I like to find catfish around cover where baitfish could be. I also use the carolina rig when I'm jigging the bottom with small lures for crappie and american shad. When I'm saltwater fishing for redfish or flounder, I also use the carolina rig because you don't want alot of hardware close to your bait spooking your fish. For channel catfish, I don't think it really matters since they're biting on smell and not eyesight. One rig is not neccessary better than another, they're all designed for a specific purpose so be sure to practice all rigs until you find what works. Good luck!

I fish lakes all the time and I don't have many problems with my carolina rigs, so that all I use.
