It's according to which species l'm talking about. Usually I call them bream, but there are several nicknames in this part of the country

Bluegill-I just call them bluegills.

Redear Sunfish-Shellcracker

Redbreast sunfish-Sungranny

Rock Bass-Redeye

Warmouth-Stumpknocker

Green Sunfish-Greenies

Longear Sunfish-I call them Longears

Pumpkinseed Sunfish-" " " Pumpkinseeds

Warmouth and stumpknockers are two totally different fish.

I prefer to call them what they are.....lol.

Out west where I live , Most folks call em supper, But we call em perch, here we have green sunfish ,and bluegills .

I just call them blue gills. Everyone knows what you mean when you say that. There is to many different kinds for me to remember. I also think of a perch as a yellow perch. Everyone here calls bluegills perch here. ;)
