For what it's worth. I think your set up is great. Unless you fish in a lot of heavy cover. But for just plain o channel cat fishing your rig is ideal.

I have family in California. I am well informed to the large size of your channel cats. May I suggest not going any lower than the 15# line that you have. Here in Pa I will not go any lower than 12# and that would be in minimal snag areas. May you be confident in your efforts. Good luck

I use 2 st croix trolling rods. Nice 8ft that is really limber for the circle hooks. paired with pfluger trion 66 reels. Power Pro or Fireline 30lb whichever is cheaper at time of spooling. then use 15lb big game leader. nice setup hear in ND where the average channel is 15-20lbs. Largest is 33lbs. Red River of the North. every once in while will switch to light gear and cast jigs or cranks for smaller ones. Fun catching 8lb cats on 4lb line and gear.

I think thats a good set up, I have a Abu Garcia Ambassadeur ONE 5000 Baitcasting Reel that I am going to use for striped bass fishing, I might even use it for channel cats.

Plenty for channels.
I use a couple of Abu Garcia 6000s with 14# of Cajun Red on 6.5' Ugly Stiks. They even handle the lighter flatheads at Rend Lake well.
