i carry a concealed weapon @ all times. especially when i am heading back to the landing past dark30. about 15 years ago my now wife were pre-scouting for deer season and we had a large bull and very agressive black angus bull send us up a tree after we lost the 50 yard dash thru the woods. thankfully there was a prefect cedar tree we get up & in quickly. he stayed there for an hour before he left.

since that day my wife and i carry on person and one in the vehicle/boat.

i have had to draw my weapon twice, both in nc. one by myself fishing on a crackhead and the second a few later weeks at nags head on a drunk determined to come thru the pass front window of our tahoe trying to convince my wife "she needed to donate him some money". unfortunately the kids witnessed that one.

laws that prohibit law abiding permit holding citizens from carrying concealed weapons only put them at risk. the thugs are going to carry guns anywhere they want.

i have heard folks talk about the nc boat landing rule. does this apply if you have a cwp?

and remeber guys think about the gun you carry. you don't catch big flatheads on number 6 bream hooks. don't expect a 22 to slow down somebody all jacked up.

I would be curious if the percentage of fishermen who carry would be so high for channel or blue cat fishermen? I would think flathead fishermen spend time in more remote areas on smaller waters after dark than most. The most likely place to get in a self defense scenario is likely at the ramp or vehicle, but it adds a little comfort in the woods. I've seen a cougar a couple times near the creek I fish and while it's highly unlikely it would ever bother me I still like having the 357 along.

We don't have cougars, bears, pythons, T Rex, axe murders, evil Muslims, Mexican drug traffickers, or bigfoots here so there's no need to cary any firearms when fishing.

It would be more feasible to pack a gun when at a car race, concert, sporting event, or the zoo because of the number of people at these events.

carry if you feel the need, I know if I lived in a different area I would consider maybe carrying, but where I live there is nothing that scares me in the woods enough to carry a weapon, and as for the two legged varmits, I can handle those pretty good without deadly force. besides that if I was carrying and seen something going down I might get a hero complex and stick my nose in where it doesn't belong, lol. If you are carrying that's fine, just know that if you ever pull it you need to shoot, none of this pulling it out and waving it around crap some people think will save them, use it or leave it holstered. I did get asked to remove my weapon at walmart one time, I was wearing a .357 on my hip and completely forgot it was there, was walking around walmart and got asked to leave the store and take it off, before returning, I was kinda embarrassed that I forgot it was on me, I had been out hunting earlier and just forgot to take it off, got a nice 4x4 whitetail with it that evening.

You bet I carry when I go fishing. i carry a .357 everytime I go out, never know what you might run into. I dont however flaunt it around or wear it in a store, just when Im out doing my fishing or hunting thing. for me carrying is having that little comfort there and hoping the need to use it never comes about, but if it does I'll be ready.

My Cousin and I went catfishing Friday night. Got all set up and everything and then from the woods behind us there were 6 or 7 teenagers throwing rocks at us for no other reason, but to be hoodlums. Now, if the wrong person had been there with a gun they wouldn't have just yelled back at the kids and threatened to call the law. Now here's how I see it look, this is the next generation of adults coming up. What happens when they get old enough to buy a gun and go to have fun,but instead of throwing rocks they're throwing lead at innocent people. So, it just depends on how mature the person is and that there is no controlled substances(drugs or alcohol) involved. I see a gun as an asset to have for fishing. thank you for your poll!

Some of my bank fishing spots get a little too sketchy after dark for my liking... some spots I still avoid but lately I just take my american pit bull terrier with me and I feel pretty safe... both male and female are pretty friendly but when they hear something @ night and start barking they sound anything but... mans best friend will always protect dad and mom...
