I always carry one in case I want to shoot the shit!
I guess the real answer is NO, and I don't carry a fishing pole with me while I am hunting either.

Well 99% a the time my .45 is with in reach and luckly ive only had to let the slide drop once. cople guys in there 20's thought they would spook a ole guy out of there fav fishin hole. told me they'd toss my ass in the river and take my spot when the slide dropped they figured they had better leave this ole redneck alone and go find a diff spot. Should a just let them have the spot but it was the principal of the thing.

Oh yea!
It is rare when there is not a shooting iron close to me.
Two years ago I came into a ramp not far from Conway AR. about 2 am. I was alone with just my dog and a livewell full of fish. There was a latern on the ramp but no one in sight. I eased up to the bank and my dog jumped out and the hairs went up on the back of my neck. So I slipped my iron in the back of my belt and grabed a flashlight. I tied up the boat and then heard my dog give a low growl. Then a guy tells me to get back into my boat and get the #&$^#& out of there. Well sir I do not take kindly taking orders from some one I am not married to or has more rank. I put the light in the area of the voice and when I did he dropped the knife and ran. Soon we heard a old truck start up and left in a hurry. None of us had a cell phone. Seems this couple were fishing when this gent showed up and sit down and had a beer with them. Then he took the knife they were cutting bait with and decieded that he was going to have his way with the wife when my boat came out of the river into the ramp. He would not have been the first and probably not the last but he came close to having his last beer. Those folks were sure glad I came when I did and had the nerve not to get back in my boat. Besides my little dog needed to pee. The Cops had little to go on and I have not heard any thing back about it. The officer who called to question me asked if I was scared to confront the man with the knife. "Nope!" says I "even at that range if I had missed, the muzzle blast from a .44mag would have sit him on the ground."
Like others have said. I will stand before 12 of my peers before I crawl to the will of lesser men.
