BEST PIECE OF CUTBAIT

I know everyone has there preference of what bait to throw out. I personally like just before the tail section with a nice gut pocket but I know other like to throw the heads out and recently I've seen a couple caught off of the tail section of the bait. I was just curious if you could only pick one piece to throw out which one would you prefer Or do you even use cutbait?

Head with gut pocket, or cut mid section with gut pocket, works best for me

Depending on how big of bait and how many cuts. Usually prefer the gut pocket, then the head, then the tail. Lot of different ways to cut it up, though.

i usually cut the head at an angle with the gut pocket with it so its not bulky but still has all the goods.

I voted gut pocket , but it really depends on what I am fishing for .

For channels I will scale and fillet the sides off the bait (works great)

For blues I will use the head of gill or shad .

For flats I will use a whole gill or shad and use a pair of scissors to trim about a 1/8" off the tail .

head then gut pocket i also like scraping the scales off i thing it puts out more scent plus i dont want a scale to get over the end of the hook

Depends on the size of the shad, 3" or less I dont cut them up just puncture the gut. Heads are my favorite, once the hooks ran thru the eyes they wont come off easily. Ive caught a whole evenings worth of channels off one head. Gut/gut bag is my no.2 choice and if Im fishing with someone or running low on shad I'll give them the head and take the gut. Tail is thrown in for chum or into the chum bucket or if we cut them at home the tail is used for making fish oil.

yeah, i use the same techneque catfisherman, i typically use suckers for bait and theyre too big to just cut into sections.

I like cutting the head off and using the rest of the fish whole. And I also like middle sections but some days they only want the heads
