    Default I chose other

I chose other on the poll, because I use 4/0 kahle hooks on my jugs. They seem to work well. I have thought about switching some to circle hooks just to see which seem to work better.

I used to use Kahles but once I tried offset circles I never went back.

I use pool noodles as well with 1/2 in pipe and anywhere from 3/0 to 5/0 eagle claw circle hooks. They seem to work really well, the largest fish i've caught on my jugs so far is a 20lb flathead, but i've only used them about 5 times. I hope to have better luck this year.

I use to jug fish alot and my advice is it depends on what size bait and fish you are after...But I use the sharpest trotline hook i find or a 7/0 ss J hook..The hook needs to penetrate easy being the fish only has to pull down the float. but adding a piece of lead and a good swivel helps too..If you cut your noodles 12 inches tie your line in the center for a better hook set rather than on the end..But if you like watching your jugs dance tie about 3 inches from the end and it will lift up as the fish pulls

On the TV series, Swords-Life on the Line, the captains all claim hook up ratio went way up plus the number of gut-hooked fish drastically went down when they replaced J hooks over to circles.

Rod and reel, I use octopus and kahle hooks.

If I was to jugg or do other alternative methods, I'd go with circles.

    John,

I use a 9/0 Circle. I like to use a little longer than 12 inch noodle if I'm using live bait. I have found that a smaller noodle with a large bluegill can sometimes give you a false pump of adrenaline. I, as you know, fish the Altamaha River and love to throw out three of four noodles and follow them floating down river. They are excellent for finding good fishing holes.

There is a great thread in the blog section on how to make up noodle jugs. Good luck my friend...

How deep do you set your jugs in the river to float with them? I am assuming you use no weight as well?

When they are dumping water out of Grand, I jug below following them down the river. Typically I use a 2 oz sinker and set them to bounce off the bottom at whatever depth I'm anchored when pitching them out. If I want to slow them up a bit I hang a little bigger weight on.

Thank you much, I'll give it a try.
