Catfish are very temperature sensitive as to where they will be during winter they will be in basin areas or old creek chanels generally the deeper water in the lake as spring starts the fish will slowly start moving up shallower as the water warms. I was catching channels in 26 foot 2 weeks ago in 43 degree water and now I'm catching them in 11 to 13 in 54 degree water. As the water warms they will continue all the way to a foot unless a cold front pushes them back out a little.

When things really heat up in mid summer, fish where a shallow cove butts up to deep water, this transistion area is a great place to fish. Esp. at night.
In dog beers, I've only had 3.

Feeder creeks are great for channels all year around. But when the water is below 50 or above 80 fish become harder to find... I havent quite figured those temps out yet

I start fishing pretty hard in March for channel cats. The water temperature at my resevoir now is 48 to 49 degrees. I am catching channel cat the most in about 8 to 10 foot of water. Most of my fishing is done on a timbered flat adjacent to the old river channel. As the water warms into the 50's, I will continue getting closer to the shallower flats which has structure, but deep water nearby. At this point in time, fresh cut shad and nightcrawlers are my best baits. All the fish I have caught are gorged with shad. I am assuming it is winter kill, but could just be the fish are gluttonous. I caught one fish that was 7 pounds, and it had a 5 inch whole white bass in its stomach. I have never seen this before.
