I like trotlines the best for the time being. I only think that is because I have not got my noodle jugs out for a full test-run yet though. I can't wait to try having my boys chase down those noodles.

Trotlines, jugs, bank poles and noodlin are legal here. Limb lines are illegal. Bank poles and trotlines are my favorite. Its hard to find water to jug now days. Most public lakes are 2 pole and line only, but jugs are a blast. Use to handfish/noodle but I grew up and realized I liked living and all my fingers. Contrary to the old timers sage advice snappers do bite underwater, lol.

I made me up a bunch of those fancy flagging noodle jugs. They are real pretty, but for 2 years I chased them suckers to and fro all across the lake and back several times. I never caught much on them except one night, I caught a gar on every one! I haven't ran jugs since then. Takes too much time away from my fishin' chasing them suckers all over God's creation. If I ever do it again, they will be anchored in place...but that kinda defeats the purpose.

MDC also changed the rules on jugging...in a negative way. Here is an author's opinion, and I agree with it.

Fisheries biologists, ethical catfish anglers and writers fought for years for a regulation requiring jug-line fishermen to remain in sight of their jugs.

A few years ago we finally got one, and now the MDC has effectively gutted it by allowing jug liners to put out jug lines in several locations so long as they check their lines at least once per hour. So now we have an unenforceable regulation, destined to waste catfish just like back in the bad old days. Thanks a lot.

I actually like the change if in fact it is true. I am going to run a few jugs occassionally this year. Whats the harm in setting a few locations and running them once an hour instead of having to set in sight of them? Now I can go fish a few spots with rod and reel, then run my jugs and repeat.........

It is true. It was printed in the Conservationist. What bothers me about it, and what I agree with the author that I quoted about, is that it is an uneforcable regulation. Yeah, it's convenient. Too convenient. What's the point? Why not just make it to where they can be unsupervised for 24 hours just like trots? There is just no way to keep track of it, so it's a junk law.

I'm a huge supporter of "alternative" methods. I just don't think this was well thought out. Especially since it hasn't been too long ago when you didn't have to stay with your jugs.

I voted limb lines it's fun to watch that limb bouncing, knowing you at least got something on it. But I enjoy a few jugs out once in a while also..
The heck with that noodling .Like my hands too well for that.

Wonder why bank poles are legal and limb lines aren't ? Any how.... I voted jugging . Guess I could try limb linning But I prefer to eat cats so I don't target the prized Flatheads Which seem to be a common limb line target . Plenty of eater channels to be had on jugs here ! I rarely have a fishing partner so trots are a no-no .

Too many slobs tied lines on trees and left'em to snag skiers etc when the water dropped is what we were told. They were outlawed around '86? Trotlines are supposed to be anchored under water now too if tied to any trees/brush etc. Guess they figure guys with bankpoles wont abandon them, but slobs/trash still do? We find abandones//lost poles on occasion. 3 years ago a group of drunks showed up on the sangamon ran about 30 poles for a couple of days and left. Carp cop went around with us 5 days later to retrieve them and kept a few for evidence and gave us the rest(mostly junk anyhow cept for the weights and a few poles). Few were marked with just initials or name, no address etc. We had their license plate numbers so they didnt get away "clean". Couple of them got $400 tickets. One bad apple/slob ruins it for the many.
