    Default Bought a Fishing Kayak

I bought my first fishing kayak today. I ended up purchasing a Pelican Castaway 116. I know it has some negatives, but I didn't want to spend a ton of money on my first fishing kayak. I figured I could use this one and decide later what I really want to have in an angling edition kayak and where I wanted these things to be placed. This will probably end up being just be an extra kayak for my friends/family to use if they want to go fishing with me within a year.

I am planning to modify the boat slightly to make fishing easier for me. I have ordered a 1.5 lb anchor kit along with some additional pad eyes. I found a great homemade PVC pipe rod holder on here that I am going to paint and place on each side of the kayak (found here). The last two things are some sort of outrigger system and a fish finder. How did you guys install your fish finders? I'm kind of worried about drilling a hole through the bottom of my kayak. Any other ways to install a fish finder since I may not be using this kayak for more than a couple months.

Hi, I am thinkin/dreaming abt my first kayak, for fishin of course!
I have read on other forums abt mounting transducer in one of the scuppers, also seems like I read about glueing(silicon) it inside and shooting thru the hull. (not with a shotgun) LOL

    Default kayak fish finder

I had a kayak with a trolling motor which I mounted on the motor near prop with heavy plastic ties. I probably would make up some pvc 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 fit in to a scupper and pipe it over side or rear of boat. Have the pvc about a foot under water and mount the transducer with heavy plastic ties to the pvc. That way you would not have a permanent install. The transducer wiring could be taped along the pvc. I have found anything loose, wiring, etc. in your yak will get kicked around. Good Luck!
