Braided line has changed the way we can fish for big fish no longer do you need the giant reels to hold 50 pond mono you can use smaller well made reels the line lasts longer and the sensitivity and near zero stretch is unequaled by the best mono.

Well This is what works for me I do not wont a fish broke ever but i do have it happen every so often but I use 100 pp. I used 60 big game for a long time but the trouble i had with it I would respool before ever tournment and in heavy current it took so much more weight to keep it down. If I was fishing 16oz current with mono I could stay there with 12 with braid. I also use 80 pound mono for leader, I will say it 1 more time I do not wont my line broke alot of time I loose everything because I have to cut it. I do really like using a real heavy leader imo it takes all the abuse. You can handle big fish with out a glove and feel first hand what that leader is going through. BTW did I tell ya I hate broke line::angry:

See alot of post saying that they use 100lb main line and 80lb leader and how they don't want to loose everything when they break off. I look at it like this, the leader needs to be the strongest point as it takes most to all of the abuse. Loosing a sinker, slide, swivel, and hook is very little concern when you could have the next state record on and the weakest link on your rig is at the fish. Just my opinion.

I spooled 2 of the same reels one with 80# Power Pro and the other with 80# Suffix braid. The Suffix is a little thicker but casts and retrieves alot smoother. I haved used them both for leaders too. I find that the suffix twist and wraps less in the current on my 3 way rig. I would trust both brands but I think the suffix is a better quality braid.

For me it's not uncommon to fish 70ft + depths and have 130-500ft of line out and use 6-24oz of weight. The braid allows me to use smaller reels and if anyone doesn't know how much 500ft of mono strecthes they should try it, however a little stretch is good with me and I use mono leaders for that purpose. Fourth I have yet to have a fish break the braid. I really haven't had any abrasion problem either. Just from my experiences. The only things I don't like about the braid is the price and only a few knots that I know of that work well with braid. I have four reels that need new line now and it'll cost me about $150 to spool them. OUCH!
You just cured me of the braid bug before it started.
