Is anyone using both on the same line?

I use both...
Never fished braid until I went to South Carolina to fish will Bill. Two days of fishing on the river convinced that braid is awesome. I love the smaller diameter, sensivity, limpness, and best of all, NO memory. I was reminded of this earlier today.. I almost exclusively use spinning gear. I went to the garage to play with some "toys". I took one of the reels and took the tag end of the line off of the spool, and BOING. Line looped off like crazy. Doesn't happen with the braid.
I still have mono on the kids rods and loaner rods. I don't have to worry about someone cutting themselves or breaking equipment by improper use, since the line isn't "super" strength.

Braid for Sure!
I prefer Braid for almost everything when it comes to Catfishing. It doesn't stretch, very abrasion resistant so it has a long life, smaller diameter than mono in heavier sizes so with large baits it will stay down in heavier current with smaller sinkers. It is also smooth so it casts well and stays straight on the spool.

i was a braid man, then i went to mono, now im headed back to the way of braided line. i like a higher test line, and braid can give me that with out the memory and stretch of mono. better bite detection and longer life span. that def makes up for the price difference to me.

Thanks for all the info everyone...I myself use mainly braid but still see advantages to the mono lines at times. I know 10 years ago it seamed like no one used Braid now it looks like the table has turned...

Remember the first couple of brands of braid.I remember one being stren kevlar , man that stuff was nasty. It was not round but flat ,and not even squre almost rectangle.Braids like mono has come a long way.Lets hope it continues to improve as fast as it has been.

I've never tried any of the newer braided lines. But back in the 1960's and 1970's, I always used braid on baitcasters. Most everyone else did. I can't remember the name of the line, but it was great (and cheap). It was color coded, every foot was a different color. And it was a much lower diameter than mono. If I remember correctly, I could buy a 300-400 yd spool of braided for less than $2.00.
I'm old school, maybe this year I'll finally break down and try braided, it just doesn't seem natural to use braided on a spinning outfit. I'm fishing around rocks and boulders most of the time from the bank. How long of a mono shock leader would I need with a braided line? Most of the time around these rocks I use either 17 or 20 lb. test Trilene XT (extra tough). It is a lower diameter than their other lines and is supposed to be more resistant to abrasion.

I like braid for drifting and bait drifting. I prefer mono for regular bottom fishing. I try to use more mono in the winter also. When I have the baits on the ground and I am going to set the hook I prefer mono. I think the stretch in mono helps with solid hooksets, since braid doesn't stretch people tend to over set the hook and rip it out of the fishes mouth. When I am bait drifting I am holding on to the line feeling for bites the whole time and for that application you want no stretch so you can feel every nibble.
