I use the large to extra large sized shrimp that are un-cooked and frozen. I peel off the shell and cut them in half. For some reason, Food Lion where I'm at they're buy one bag get the other free. If you can, buy them now, they're cheaper this time of year. Shrimp work really well for me at the bodies of water I fish at.

Though, a throw net for some shad about just a good and cheaper over the long haul imho. ..

Got to agree with the Jollyman on this one, the fresher the better, I dont know how it will work for you, but I nave not found one place here, that shrimp has failed to produce fish, they may not be the biggest ones you catch that day, but there will be fish, biting them. Channels love them so do blues, I never fail to take a batch of shrimp with me when Im out to catch eaters, so far ive not been disapointed. In most cases Ive found that peeling the shrimp will speed up the bite.

There are not to many things in this world that won't eat a shrimp, except my wife, she can't take the iodine, bad for her, good for me.

The walmart raw shrimp work great for me. Bag some up with garlic especially when they get freezer burned. I've had nights when they bite bluegill heads and won't touch a shrimp and visa versa.
