Lake Wateree: Do the Blues leave the Cedar Creek dam area after they spawn?

About 6 weeks ago a friend and I tried fishing the upper lake area of Lake Wateree that most people call the river area. We fished the bottom with live shad from about 6:00 p.m. until about 9:30 p.m.. We loaded a 120 quart cooler with nice blues in the 8 to 12 pound range. If the fish stopped biting, we just drifted about 100 yards and the bit was on again. When we cleaned the fish most all were heavy with eggs.
This past Friday night we went back, same bait, same locations, and might have caught 8 or 10 in the 4 to 6 pound range. My question to you experts is where did they go? On Wateree after the spawn how do you fish for them? It seemed to us the Blues must have gone back towards the dam near Camden? By the way, there were some boats fishing around us and no one was catching any fish that we could see. Any help on how, when, and where would be appreciated.
