Apparently This Matters: Holding a guitar makes you sexy

Editor's note: Each week in "Apparently This Matters," CNN's Jarrett Bellini applies his warped sensibilities to trending topics in social media and random items of interest on the Web.

(CNN) -- There's a great song by Todd Snider called "The Ballad of The Kingsmen." In it, he sings, "Marilyn Manson gets a lot of chicks. They're weird chicks. But they're chicks."
And it's true. Heaps of (weird) women lust for Marilyn Manson. He's a bona fide rock star. If, say, owning a bagel shop somehow proved to be just as glamorous, right now teenagers would be boiling delicious circles of bread in their parents' garage. But that's not the case.
Image: http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/dam/assets/130510105956-bellini-keith-richards-sexy-story-top.jpg

In fact, never in the history of the world has anyone ever said, "Make love to me, Bagel Man."

Those words. In that order. Not even once.

Sorry, Bagel Man. They're just not that into you.

Whereas, when it comes to truly sexy male occupations, the official list seems to top out with musician, athlete, and Anthony Bourdain.

But good luck trying to get THAT job.

"Are you Anthony Bourdain?"

"No."

"Thanks for coming in. We'll keep your résumé on file."

Fortunately, though, almost anyone can at least aspire to be a musician, and a new study backs up this seemingly obvious connection between attractiveness and playing an instrument.

Or even just holding one.

Really, that's why most guys get into playing music in the first place. To increase their sex appeal.

So you want to catch more and bigger fish...its all about location and timing been catching big cats all over the country...stay with the fresh cut bait for blues and channels live bait for flats. Always use fresh cut bait cut/live bait size isn't the formula for big fish. you have to let the fish tell you what size bait they want (I know, sounds like hippie BS), if your getting bites that are small and sluggish downsize your bait and your hook this method has put us in the money a few times now, some times they just don't care. Now my other big tip is the 30-min rule...you sit for 30 minutes and you don't have a bite or a fish move on if you get a bite wait 10 more minutes if you catch a fish restart the clock, when you hit the 30 min mark don't move far just move down the bank 100 yards if that doesn't work go back 200 yards. If you have a boat find some bait on good structure or some good fish you want to catch and setup on them and fan cast around and wait 30 min. then pick up anchor and move 100 yards in any direction or go find another piece of structure or find some more fish. gets real simple if you work at it, the bad thing is you expect a fish over 30 on every trip eventually lol

Way to Go Charlotte 153rd Scouts

Its a shame that the Scouts have to use their valuable week end time clearing up after us anglers!

Today I saw the Charlotte 153rd Troop at Copper Head Island on Lake Wylie N. C. picking litter and I spoke to the troop leader. Apparently twice per year they go down to Copper Head and clear up all the litter, they had so many bags full - I lost count. In fairness its not just the anglers, they pick all the trash up that gets gets washed up and gets into the trees on the bank but its mainly anglers and boaters.

The other week I saw people getting out of a mega expensive wake boat and they just left their trash in the car park at Niven's Creek where they had wiped the boat down, only 25 yards from the trash bins!

So, 153rd Troop, on behalf of those of us who do appreciate a clean and litter free countryside (humans and animals), THANK YOU.

Red River Fishing Report (Boyce area)

My son and I were back on the Red this past Saturday. We ran about a dozen float lines on a bayou which is off of the main river. After a couple of hours with no bites we were gathering up our float lines when we saw a couple of guys running a hoop net and they called us over and said that they had caught more fish than they needed or wanted to clean and asked us if we wanted them. I said yes, figuring it was probably going to be a few small catfish or crappie. To my surprise one of the guys put about 8 large crappies (sac-a-lait as we say around Acadiana) which I did not realize they got that large and 2 large catfish plus another catfish that was about 12". The four mile trip back to the boat launch got very windy and there were actually waves with white caps on some of them. When we got back my son was the "lucky" one who got to clean all of the fish...

Wow, this is unbelievable.

i will preface my comments by saying several of you guys hate me. No big deal, no skin off my back. Justin: I tried to send you a pm, I never came in and threw on you once. Let alone three times. I worked two full time jobs last summer. I fished 5 times total from the end of may until August. And three of those were outta rising sun. Sorry if u think I screwed you. The only time I threw on anybody at tanners was one night we went out. I saw some guys (still, no idea if it was you) tied up and we dropped anchor and waited for 45 minutes. They caught 0 mooneye so we approached and asked if we could throw and we would split our catch with them. They said ok so we threw and caught roughly 45 mooneye. I like to fish them live so I took the bigger ones that weren't gill netted and dropped them in the livewell. I came back up to your boat and tossed u roughly 20. I then tried to chat and u said "I know u got 80 mooneye and you are ripping us off. I know who you are"'so I backed out, left, and went fishing. That's one of two times I was up there all summer. The other was a weeknight and nobody was out. If that was you that night I apologize. I honestly, hand on the Bible, never ripped you off.

drpepper: you hate me, Always will. I remember a time when we were trying to plan a field trip for my kids (actually the same students who passed away in that FFA crash). You were open and inviting. And I appreciate that. Thank you. Glad to hear your physicals checked out and You are good to go. Still would like hitting the river with you and actually meeting face to face to air grievances. But that won't happen so let's move on.

justin: I know Steve vaguely and he is a standup guy the cares about protecting our waters. You have to understand where his business is. Should he require every order to fill out where they will be using his rod holders? That's crazy and nonsense. He has a product to sell to the general public and must meet demand. And i doubt too many paylakers are buying Monsters to mount to their truck bed. He is CHOOSING to support the regulations on his own time, with risk to his income. Most of us can preach conservation and go back to our lively hood. They arent intertwined. Steve walks that line of both and actually stands up for our side way more than 99% of guys in his spot would do. That is a HUGE ace in the hole for us. Only way we are gonna get regs changed is to show where the dollars actually lay. And that is Steve 100% percent!!! We not only want Steve continuing his work, he is vital to our success. Thank you Steve for doing what you are doing.

If we are united it's way bette for the cause than bickering amongst ourselves

i would like to do more and hope to do so. One reason I haven't is because I haven't felt comfortable going to meetings with several people on here so vehemently hating me. I have decided to go anyways from now on. i plan on driving to Barkley in a couple weeks and hope to see you there. Come up and say hi and let's air things out
---End Quote---
Good post and you hit the nail on the head on every paragraph. If you see a Carolina skiff on the water from FL, please wave and say HI. I will talk fishing with you and share my info.

Good post and you hit the nail on the head on every paragraph. If you see a Carolina skiff on the water from FL, please wave and say HI. I will talk fishing with you and share my info.

I always stir some beef blood into store-bought stink baits. Right now I am unable to get a hold of any beef blood. I have some deer blood frozen from our last kill; what do ya’ll think about using the venison blood as a substitute?
