You threw me there for a sec... never heard it called cawtaba. I'm pretty sure I have a BIG catalpa tree at the east end of my property... I rarely wander to that end though. I've never seen any worms on it either.:confused2:

Prime your trees with some purchased worms or worms from other trees and you will have your own supply in following years. Dont let anyone poison anywhere nearby.
I have transplanted and sprigged them at former residences and had to prime them to get them going.

When I got my tree I just found a tree with worms on it and waited till december and cut an 18" limb off and put it in water. It rooted in the water then I planted it outside. we had a good wet year that year so I didn't even have to water it. Now it is 50 feet tall.

I have a huge tree in my front yard that has provided me with worms a-plenty for as many years as I have lived here. About this time last year I shipped out over 100 seedlings to various people on the BOC.

I'll make the same offer this year again. Anyone that would like some bareroot seedlings of Catalpa trees just needs to contact me at okcharters@yahoo.com (okcharters@yahoo.com) with your information including shipping address, off-site email address, phone number and the number of seedlings you would like to have. The only cost to the individual will be the price of shipping.

Will dig them this afternoon and have them in the mail to you pronto. It's lots better to have someone to send them to rather than just toss them on the burn pile.

I'll have a few more to remove, then that's all for the season. (I remove the seedlings from my flower garden in the winter when I work the garden soil.)

You got the last of the seedlings. There are no more this year... There were few seedlings this year since the worms came early and stripped the tree before the seed pods could mature.

There will be very few seedlings next year... only the ones I missed this year. Good Luck and have a Happy New Year!

I'll have to look. I'll make the same offer if i can find the seedlings. I've got catalpas all over the back 60. Still getting used to the property though and only know for a fact where about 15 adult trees are. One of those trees looked like a complete web when i first got here. I'll keep my eyes peeled and see what I can come up with.

I use a standard sliding sinker rig with a single #6 or #4 hook that has baitholder slices and a slight kirb. To bait up using the tried and true method, pinch off the head and turn the worm inside-out with a matchstick, then worm the gooey mess down the hook. Little girls just worm it on the hook without the inversion.

As for California... I never saw one in California or Arizona... probably because of their strict laws that prohibit the importation (and exportation) of plant materials without a permit.
