Went out in the rain of course and nailed a 50 pound blue from San V. Fish ate a big chunk of mac. Also caught a 17.5 pound channel and lost a bigger blue all within a 45 minute time frame from 400pm - 445. The bigger blue shook loose and could not be stopped until it shook loose. Biggest one of the year for me so far. Looking forward to getting more.

Brian.

PS, if anyone can resize the pic for me give me your email and I will send the pic to you.

The deal on this fish was it was caught in shallow water right off some rocks in about 6 feet of water. It was raining, so I knew the blues would be crusing the shallows looking for some feed. Soon as it hit, it made a dash for deep water, but my jim moyer rod and abu garcia 7000 big game with 30 pound trilene had things in control. It hit hard and strong and shocked me at first. It took about 8 minutes to get the fish in. Real good fight and fun as well. Cut chunks of mac did the trick, all my hits were on chunks and no takers on the heads at all to my surprise. Loookinf forward to the next good rainfall if it happens and I will try to be out there again for some cruiser blues.

Also the fish released like a charm splashing water in my face as it took off in good shape.

Brian,
Nice cat! You need to put it in the Hall of Fame for CA.

Hey Dale. Yeah little B was with me. I have a pic with him as well. He was scared of the cat though. LOL. I may go next weekend if conditions is right. It is suppose to rain on Monday and Tues though, but the lake is only open Thurs thru Sunday. I arrived at noon and stayed until closing so I fished for about 5 1/2 hours. They seem to do better during the eve hours their so really no need to go until the afternoon time.

Oh I forgot to answer your question.

The lake was close to empty, which is another reason I like fishing in the rain. Only the hardcore will venture out in those conditions, and it is the best time to go after big blues as well.

Bluehunter, thats a super catch! I've had some great action in the rain but I'm always concerned about getting my car stuck in the muddy roads. I give you props as a sportsman for releasing the fish.

Most definitely Dale. I hear that the flatheads are picking up jugding from the report I saw from desert cat on the FN. That is what I really want, an opportunity at some nice flatheads. Hit me up at 909-843-7315 and see what we can put together. Sat eve and night would be best so I can come back Sun Morning and get ready for the hard week that always awaits me.

So blue how did the 50lbr rate for catches on san V this year

Man there talken of rain for the end of the week? emmm

ya blue I here its starting to pick up also, but i think its been south of blythe right now 40 to 50 miles south the water temp may be 5* or more warmer then blythe , a week ago the temp the water temp was 58* up by the dam and down by camp ( about 6 miles)was 60* with some spots of 61* and 62* in the slower moving water. At the dock the temp was 2* wamer at sundown then in the morning. With longer and warmer days it will start to warm up quick Man i'm hopen for hot sunny days and your hopen for cloudy rainy days and right now i think your winning. lol But Wyane down at the bait shop said there was a 40lb er got not to far south of the 10fwy.

the dude that got all them flats got them not far from indio south on the Coachella Canal . Somthing about that deal is odd to me. Just cant see 1 crew getting all them cats on rod and reel. dude said he put more back then he took? Flats just don't come that easy. I know or or sure think the canals were all drawn down about the time he said he got them. And how many can a person use, bet the dude put 150# to 200# of meat in his freezer, and i think that to be alot of over kill, but thats just me. I think that was a lot of big fish for a smaller water way.

dude i'll buzz you tomarow, called ya this evening but ya had your phone off

Yeah Dale Ronson and I was thinking the same thing about that being odd as well. The first time he said the water was crystal clear a few weeks ago and they just put worms in front of their face and they took it. This time it was small tilapia as bait. Another guy thought that that area they fished was restricted. I am thinking snagg myself but do not want to say for sure since I have never been there, nor know anything about flatheads, but that will change soon since that is my new mission now. Whenever the time is right Dale let me know. I plan on making many trips to the river soon and is waiting on lessons from you.

That blue I caught was the biggest of the year so far but that will not last long. There are really big blues there and there are many good blue hunters that is going there soon, I know of 3 going this weekend, catmando included. I may go saturday it depends if the conditions is right. I'll get a report on Friday of whats going on. Whenever you want to go there let me know. I like to go during certain times you know which ones as well."""Rain""""

I'll have my phone on tomorrow, batteries was dead today and my charger was left at home. LOL.
